I don’t regret dethroning Emir Sanusi – Ganduje

2 Min Read

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State says the reforms he initiated in the the state’s traditional system led to the ouster of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.

He added that he has no regrets engaging in the reforms as they have benefitted the people.

Ganduje stated this in an interaction with the media to mark this year’s Democracy Day.

The governor identified the creation of four new Emirates – Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi – as one of the major achievements of his administration.

He maintained that Sanusi lost his position due to his refusal to be part of the reforms that were conceived with the interest of the people of Kano State at heart.

“The former Emir of Kano, who refused to be part of the reforms, has to bow out so that the reforms can be completed and the new emirates have come to stay,” the governor said.

Ganduje noted that the reforms were slowed by legal issues raised by the deposed Emir and some loyalists.

“But today, there is no legal issues before the court as regards the reforms of the traditional system,” he said.

In the same vein, he stated that investigations into the alleged N2.2 billion land scam involving Emir Sanusi would continue after a court cleared the way for it.

He explained that the “the state anti-corruption agency will continue investigating the former emir according to the law.”
