Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa on Friday inaugurated the new presidential lodge and banquet hall at the Government House Lafia, as part of activities to mark the 2020 Democracy day celebration.

Sule, while inaugurating the edifices named them after two of his predecessors- Umaru Al-Makura and late Aliyu Akwe-Doma, for their contributions to the development of the state.

The governor explained that the new presidential lodge was initiated by Al-Makura, while the construction of the banquet hall began during Akwe-Doma’s administration.

Sule added that the decision to name the 1,000-capacity banquet hall after Akwe-Doma was to immortalise the late former governor who died on March 7, 2018.

He pointed out that with the inauguration of the banquet hall, most government functions would henceforth be held at the hall.

Sule said that the completion of the two projects was in keeping with his administration’s committed to complete all pending projects from previous government’s.

According to him, governance is a continuum, hence his resolve to complete all the projects inherited from his predecessors.

“Government has committed a lot of resources to those projects. Therefore, it is better for us to complete them and put them into use for the benefit of the public.

“We will complete the old projects, in addition to initiating fresh ones to fulfil our campaign promises to the people,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was accompanied by Mohammed Abdullahi, Minister of State, Science and Technology, Senator Umaru Al-Makura, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Senator Godiya Akwashiki and other members of the National Assembly from the state including those from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to inaugurate the projects.
