Former Emir, Sanusi Loses Bid to Stop Ganduje From Investigtating Him

2 Min Read

Former Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has lost his bid to stop Governor Ganduje from investigating him over alleged land racketeering.

The deposed Emir filed a suit against the Kano State Government in a bid to stop the state anti graft commission from digging into details of sales of lands belonging to the Kano Emirate Council while Sanusi was Emir.

The case was dismissed by the Federal High Court in the State paving the way for the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to commence investigation of the former Emir.

The suit prayed the court to grant an order restraining the chairman of the PCACC, Mr. Muhyi Rimingado, the State Attorney-General and Governor Ganduje from investigating Sansui.

According to the presiding judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa, the activitries of the commission did not violate the rights of the former emir. She thereafter dismissed the suit.

Sanusi is being investigated by the state anti-graft commission for an alleged N2.2 billion land racketeering at the Gandun Sarki area of Kano.

The deposed emir is being investigated alongside several members of the Kano Emirate Council including, Sarki Ibrahim, the Makamman of Kano and Sheu Dankadai, the Sarkin Shanun.

The court had earlier ordered for investigations to stop pending the determination of the suit in February.

The situation is seen as an escalation of the feud between Ganduje and Sanusi before the latter’s emirate was divided into five and he was eventually deposed.
