The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned in strong terms the killing of a pastor, Emmanuel Bileya and his five-month pregnant wife, Juliana on their farm in Taraba State.

The incident was reported in a statement by the state government on June 2.

Until his death, Bileya was the pastor of Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRC-N) in Mararaba, Donga local government area of the state.

The Christan body urged restraint among warring tribes in Southern Taraba that have been on each other’s throats for more than a year.

CAN also called on the government and relevant security agencies to bring an end to the bloodletting in the area.

According to Vanguard, National Vice President of CAN, Rev. Caleb Ahima who is also the National President of CRC-N, spoke at the national headquarters of the church in Takum, Taraba state.

He condemned the action of the militiamen fingered in the killings, and appealed for an end to the incessant killings.

“The crisis is degenerating into a very serious bloodletting and destruction of personal effects and government must use all the apparatus within it powers to stop these killings.

“The church is unhappy with the dimension the crisis is taking because several clergies have been victims of the killings, and the recent one was gruesome killing of pastor Emmanuel Saba Bileya and his wife who was five months pregnant,” Ahima lamented.
