Nigerians’ Express Doubt For Tinubu’s Sincerity As He Champions Womens Rights

2 Min Read

Nigerians have expressed doubt in Bola Tinubu’s show of support for women’s right in Nigeria.

Following the killing of two young Nigerian women, a 16-year-old identified as Tina who was shot dead by a trigger happy officer and a 22-year-old lady, identified as Vera Uwaila Omozuwa who was raped and killed in an RCCG branch in Benin, Nigerians have taken to the streets and social media to demand justice for their deaths.

A lot of people have reacted to the devastating news, including former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who took to his twitter page to demand justice for their deaths while sharing a picture of himself holding a placard with the hashtags: #JusticeForJennifer #JusticeForUwa #JusticeForTina #BlackOutTuesday.

Tinubu tweeted: “For far too long women and young girls in our nation have suffered the pain, hurt and stigma of gender-based violence and abuse. Too many have been hurt, intimidated and bullied. Too many have died. Such violence is inexcusable. There is nothing that can defend this wrongdoing.

All of us are born of woman and nurtured of woman. Vera Uwaila Omozuwa is the most recent name on a list, far too long, of women who have lost their lives at the hands of these vile criminals. Today, I rise in solidarity with women in Nigeria to say #enoughisenough.”

Nigerians took to the comment section to react to his post, a lot expressed their joy that Tinubu is standing up for woman, while a few expressed their doubt in the former governors statement.

Some stated that it was just a political ploy aimed at gaining supporters towards the 2023 election while others demanded that instead of posting statements online, he should have a serious talk with President Buhari on how to address the situation.
