Speaking to a group of youths who staged a protest against the rape and subsequent murder of the victim at Edo Government House on Monday, Edeko said the state would ensure justice for the victim.

She described the victim as a role model for the Nigerian education system, whose life was however cut short by evil people.

“In this age and time when some youths don’t like to read, the young girl decided to go to a secured place to read.

“I remember my days as a student, I used to go to classes to read at night and I was not scared of being raped.

“It is so saddening that a student who decided to study in a house of God, a supposed safe place was raped and murdered,” she said.

She urged the community where the deceased lived, to join hands with security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for the protest group, Mr Stavihn Imediegwu said they were concerned youths who decided to speak out against rape of the girl child.

“We did not come here under any banner, we came here with one face to speak against rape because it a serious crime.

“We cannot allow such vices to continue to happen in the state. We want justice to prevail,” they said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victim was a 100-level Microbiology student of UNIBEN before her travail.
