“I’m the most investigated, denigrated person” – Bauchi governor

2 Min Read

Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed has described himself as the most investigated and denigrated individual in Nigeria.

He stated this in a Saturday chat with reporters to mark his first year in office.

Since his exit as FCT minister in 2015 and until his election on March 9, 2019, Mr Mohammed faced corruption trial arising from alleged land racketeering.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) suspended a multi-billion naira corruption case against him after he emerged governor-elect.

This was in conformity with a constitutional provision that accords absolute immunity from criminal prosecution to an elected governor.

Mohammed added that he was battling a gang-up by people he previously worked with before emerging Bauchi governor.

“We are doing our best and we are not doing it to be praised; we are doing it because we have to do it so as to free resources.

“My commissioners are complaining but we have to make sacrifices because we are bogged down by a feeling of gratitude to God and the people of Bauchi for what they have done for me.

“I’m the most investigated and denigrated person but the people have faith in me. I’ve faced opposition; even now I’m suffering from a gang-up.

“A gang-up by even people that I have worked with to come to this level,” Mohammed said.

The Bauchi governor further stressed that he had no ‘godfather’ and no liability on his head to service anybody.

Mohammed, who said he had no partisan consideration in discharging his duties, revealed that most of the projects embarked upon by his administration were kickstarted by N 11 billion recovered by EFCC and handed over to his government.
