Dangote chides Ohanaeze over smuggling of Northern youths into South-East

2 Min Read

Dangote Industries Limited says there is no truth behind claims by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo that the company’s trucks were being used to smuggle northern youths into the South-East geopolitical zone.

The company stated this in a letter signed by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina and addressed to President-General of the foremost Igbo socio-cultural group, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.

Nwodo had claimed that Dangote trucks were well-known for transporting northern youths into other parts of the country, especially the South-East.

According to Dangote, the allegations were not only spurious but also capable of misleading the public.

Chiejina said that only the driver and his assistant were the two persons permitted to be inside the truck.

In the letter dated May 27, 2020, the company sought the public’s cooperation to apprehend those in its employ but engaging in illegal haulage operations.

The company warned those illegally transporting materials on Dangote trucks that such unauthorised goods would be confiscated and the drivers and owners of the goods prosecuted according to the law.

“We plead with the public that while making the report, to remember to include the following details: truck type, truck plate number, truck cab no, location of truck, contents of truck, colour of the truck and photographs of the truck and goods if possible.

“The police and/or law enforcement agents are also authorised to arrest any Dangote driver involved in such illegal act,” the letter read in part.
