“As a public officer, I deserve to be criticised” – Keyamo

2 Min Read

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo SAN says he expects criticisms by virtue of his position as a public officer.

He stated this on Tuesday morning while wading into a social media exchange on his Twitter handle.

In a Monday tweet, Keyamo had written, “At times, Social Media can be the most unfair interactive platform you would ever imagine exists. Many targets of vile language dare not respond in similar manner due to responsibility or position. And those who use vile language are still hailed as the champions. Sad and strange.”

A critic, Adetutu Balogun hit back with a video supposedly showing the senior lawyer referring to former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan as “half liver, half brain”, asking if it was not vile enough.

“Festus you are one of the forerunners of “vile language”. This is you calling a former President “Half Liver and Half Brain”. You are a bloody hypocrite! Go and wash your mouth with antibacterial soap!” Ms. Balogun captioned the video.

But a fan of Keyamo, @TagQueen1 slammed the critic, saying, “This (insulting word) woman don carry her cockroaches enter Oga Minister’s handle. Sir, ur page is too dirty, needs a deepclean, start blocking these nonentities, they r keeping responsible respondents away frm ur tweets.”

Replying the tweet, the minister said, “I appreciate your concern, but don’t abuse someone’s wife like that (or just anyone) who’s contributing to public discourse. I’ve NEVER blocked or had ANY abusive exchange here with ANYONE and I’ll not. As a public officer, I deserve to be criticised & I must take them on my chin.”
