As Coronavirus (COVID-19) increases toll in Nigeria, dozens of initiatives targeting vulnerable communities has emerged in Nigeria. Among them, the FD Sarauniya Foundation has launched its humanitarian operations to respond to the new reality.
Last Sunday, the FD sarauniya has distributed 1000 face masks to vulnerable groups in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State. With the collaboration of worship centers across-divide, has also launched a solidarity campaign against COVID-19 and urging people to take responsibility by adhering to strict regulations by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control as well as authorities in Taraba State and Nigeria in general.
Set up in 2018, the FD Sarauniya Foundation fights to protect abandoned children in Nigeria, striving for a society that guarantees rights to education of a girl-child and inclusion of social life in a dignified environment.
The President/Founder, Fitami David said “We seek to ensure that every girl-child attend school rather than a child domestic worker.”
Fitami David further said “Our Foundation count on a team of 20 members mostly volunteers working tirelessly to protect and safeguard the rights of Nigerian children enshrined in our constitution as well as International Covenant on human rights to which Nigeria is a party to the treaty.”
However, solidarity efforts by many NGOs in Nigeria are coming when the lockdown order by the Nigerian Government is already making life difficult particularly for families in rural areas whose livelihoods have been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, and where farming activities are exerting further concerns this year.
Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the Nigerian farmers to step up farming activities and produce sufficient foods to sustain the country. The president lamented that his administration does not have money to buy food anywhere.
For any reason, the distribution of 1000 face masks to the vulnerable groups in Jalingo by the FD Sarauniya Foundation will go along way in curbing the spread of coronavirus and protecting the vulnerable from getting contacted.
FD Sarauniya foundation is an NGO that is pioneered by Fitami David, a former Miss Tourism Nigeria (Culture), former Miss Tourism Taraba, and Former Miss Taraba. Fitami studied sociology from the Taraba State University, she is also the CEO of FD Sarauniya Ltd which currently running a fashion business that has its label known as FDS Fashions.
