69 Nigerians Evacuated From Lebanon

50 trafficked Nigerian girls and 19 stranded Nigerians have been evacuated from Lebanon.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama, who disclosed this on his verified Twitter handle said the evacuees arrived in Nigeria on Sunday May 24.

He thanked the Lebanese government for their support and the Lebanese community in Nigeria in ensuring the safe evacuation of the affected persons.

He tweeted: “With the financial and logistic support of the Lebanese Government and Lebanese community in Nigeria, 50 trafficked Nigerian girls and 19 stranded Nigerians were successfully evacuated from #Lebanon and arrived Nigeria today,

“Profound gratitude to Ambassador Houssam Diad, Lebanese Ambassador in Nigeria and Ambassador Goni Zannabura, Nigerian Ambassador in Lebanon.”

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government says the manager of Prodest Hotel, Eleme, one of the two recently demolished in the state, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Commissioner for Information in the state, Paulinus Nsirim made the disclosure Sunday evening while giving an update on COVID-19 in the state.

He said a total of 27 new cases of the virus have been reported in Rivers, including the manager of the hotel.

Nsirim said the state government’s proactive decision to demolish the hotel has been justified by the new development.

The commissioner recalled that, “Prodest Hotel was demolished two weeks ago because the owners violated Executive Order 7 which banned the operation of hotels.”
