“I didn’t know it was part of marital duty” – Bauchi teenager kills husband for trying to sleep with her

2 Min Read

Salma Hassan, a 17-year-old bride paraded for killing her husband, says she did not know sex was part of marital obligation.

She disclosed this on Tuesday while being paraded by the Bauchi State Police Command.

A police statement stated that Hassan stabbed her husband, Mohammed Mustapha on April 24 in their home in Itas-Gadau.

According to the police, a bloody knife used to perpetrate the crime was recovered from the scene after one Haruna Musa reported a case of culpable homicide at Itas-Gadau Division at 9am on April 24.

The statement said the victim sustained serious injury and was rushed to General hospital Itas–Gadau for treatment where he was certified dead.

“I never knew that sex is a marital obligation. On that fateful night when he approached me for sex, I refused him because I have never been involved in it. I honestly thought he wanted to defile me. He later got angry and was trying to force himself on me with slaps and beating, then I picked up a knife to scare him away but he kept coming. I didn’t know when I stabbed him with the knife in his chest.

“I have already given my statement. I don’t know what will happen to me now. But I wouldn’t have done what I did if I knew better,” Hassan told Vanguard.
