The appointment of the registrar of National Examination Council, NECO, Charles Uwakwe, has been terminated by the President, Muhammadu Buhari over allegations of misconduct in violation of the public procurement act.
According to reports, four other management staff of the council have also been sacked for several offences and misconduct.
Daily Trust reported that the termination of the officials who have been on suspension and under investigation came as a recommendation from the investigating panel.
The council’s head of information and public relations, Azeez Sani, announced the termination in a statement reported by Daily Trust on Thursday.
He said that the “President in exercise of his powers, has approved your removal as Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of National Examinations Council with effect from the date of your suspension from duty”.
Details of the other officials sacked as disclosed in a report by Legit include:
Bamidele Olure, Acting Director (Finance and Accounts), Shina Adetona, Head of Procurement Division, Tayo Odukoya, Deputy Director and Barr. Babatunde Aina, Head of Legal/Board matters.
Legit reported that Olure was dismissed for financial impropriety and being unqualified to head the Finance and Accounts Department.
The report further stated that Adetona was sacked for acts leading up to fraudulent practices, sabotage and suppression of official records.
Odukoya was dismissed high level misconduct, while Aina was dismissed for falsification of records and dishonesty in the sale of NECO Guest House.
