The suspects

For alleged connection with the killing of a police sergeant, two fake soldiers – Kehinde Elijah and Eze Joseph – have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command.

The duo allegedly killed the policeman, Onalaja Onajide attached to the Ilemba Hausa Division, Ajangbadi, by shooting him to death in front of the division about 9:30 pm on May 10.

Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Yahaya Adesina, who allegedly witnessed the incident that night, led the team that apprehended the suspects weekend, The Herald learnt.

It was further gathered that Elijah, who was sacked by Nigerian Army authorities for fleeing from counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast, had his motorcycle impounded by personnel at the division.

He was said to have visited the division many times in his military uniform during the day and was later spotted in a Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) carrying men in military uniforms around the division just before Onajide’s fatal shooting.

Elijah was apprehended on Saturday and found to be a fake soldier.

According to reports, he confessed to deserting the Army with his firearm, three service uniforms, and other military accouterments.

Joseph on his part was said to have been apprehended at his Ajangbadi residence where three military uniforms were found. Some other impersonators that were at the residence were said to have fled on sighting the police.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest.
