Labour leader raises alarm over herdsmen attack in Delta

2 Min Read
Kokori

Chief Frank Kokori, a former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG), has raised the alarm over incessant attacks by armed herdsmen in Delta State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain lamented that the Delta was fast becoming the epicentre of herdsmen violence in the South-South geopolitical zone.

The ex-labour leader equated herdsmen violence in the state to a “siege”.

Kokori challenged the state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, to ensure that the life of every Deltan was not wasted by hoodlums, saying that the people were beginning to lose confidence in his ability to protect them.

The elder statesman expressed sadness that the situation has persisted despite calls from different quarters.

Kokori said, “This is a siege on Delta State and I am calling on the governor and his people, executive, to tackle this matter seriously because the people are starting to lose confidence in the ability of the government to protect them which is one of the cardinal objectives of a government.

“They should not make Delta State the epicentre of herdsmen menace in the South-South that cannot be controlled.

“As an elder statesman, I am saddened because every day, herdsmen are marauding the length and breadth of the state and the state is fast becoming the epicentre of herdsmen killings and kidnappings in the entire South-South.’’
