Didier Drogba has been voted the best forward of the French Ligue 1 of the last 20 years ahead of former Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a poll.
The vote was held on Ligue 1’s official Twitter account, with Drogba receiving 51 per cent of the 40,094 votes that were cast.
Drogba, excited by the news, took to the social media platform to thank fans for honoring him.
He wrote: “Waaaw what recognition from the fans, thank you @EAGuingamp @OM_Officiel for allowing me to experience these incredible emotions.“Great respect to all strikers who have played in the French championship.”
Before he became a legend at Chelsea, Drogba played in Ligue 1 for three seasons, beginning at Guingamp during 2001 and 2003. He then went on to play the 2003/04 season at Marseille.
He joined Marseille for £3.3m in the summer of 2003, showing form that would see Chelsea shell out £24m for his services just a year later.
Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, played for Paris Saint-Germain between 2012 and 2016 and boasts an impressive record of 113 goals in 122 Ligue 1 appearances.
The Swedish striker won the league title four times in France, with Drogba not winning it at all.
