Justice Saleh, presiding judge over June 12 Election Passes on, Aged 81

Justice Dahiru Saleh, the  judge who pronounced the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, null and void has passed on.

He was aged 81.

The Presidential election of June 12, 1993 was won according to majority votes by the late MKO Abiola of the defunct Social Democratic Party after beating his closest adversary , Alhaji Bashir Tofa, of the National Republican Convention.

The action, which was motivated by the then ruling military Head of State, Gen Ibrahim Babangida, took the nation by storm on June 23, 1993,

Herald NG learned that the retired judge passed away Thursday afternoon in his hometown, Azare, headquarters of the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Late Judge Saleh was immediately buried at the Emir of Katagum’ Palace same day according to Islamic rites.

Born August 22, 1939 in Azare, late Judge Saleh attended the Azare Primary School from 1948 to 1951 and then went on to attend the Azare Senior Primary School in 1952 where he completed his primary education 1955.

Saleh then proceeded to the Barewa College, Zaria in 1956-1969 for his secondary education. Afterwards, for Tertiary Education,  He attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1961 to 1962 and the Council of Legal Education, London (Middle Temple) between 1962 and 1965.

Saleh kick off his legal career working at the Pupil State Counsel Northern Nigeria in 1966. He proceeded to serve at several Organisation’s within the country until he rose to become the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja from 1984 to 2003 where he retired.

His demise was made public by one of his grand sons, Armayau Abubakar Liman, via his Facebook account

Liman wrote, “Inna lilahi wa inna ilahi rajiun. My grandfather, Justice Muhammad Dahiru Saleh, (retd.), former CJ FCT (Matawalken Katagum), has passed on this afternoon. I solicit your prayers for Allah’s mercy on his soul. Allah ya gafarta Maka Baba Justice. Allah ya kyauta makwanci ka da sauran Alumma baki daya”.

The State Government of Bauchi has yet to make any statement regarding his death.
