Senator Shehu Sani has backed the Federal Government’s decision to keep worship centres in the country closed in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, made his stance known in a tweet on Thursday.
Recall that Presiding Bishop, Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo recently slammed the government for permitting the reopening of markets while churches remained closed.
The Nigerian government had banned religious and social gatherings as one of the measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19
“I can smell a rat behind the closure of Churches. The Lord spoke to me about it. It’s part of moves to stop the Church from spreading.
“How do you have the markets open and the Churches remain closed? Which one is more organised.
“Any gang up against the Church shall surely fail. The devil and his agents shall surely pay for this,” Oyedepo said during the Covenant Hour of Prayer programme of the Church held at its headquarters in Ota, Ogun State on Wednesday.
Reacting, Sani wrote, “When you open the Market & close the Mosque/Church, you feed the body & starve the soul. When you open the church/Mosque & close the market, you feed the Soul & starve the body. When you open the market & the Mosque/church without control, you feed the virus with the body & the soul.”
