2 Min Read

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sani, for stabbing her mother-in-law to death.

The suspect, a resident of Gobirawa village in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state, allegedly stabbed the 70-year-old, Aishatu Umaru, blaming her for instigating her divorce.

Niger State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Adamu Usman, said on Monday in Minna that Fatima Sani had an altercation with her husband, Sani Umaru on Thursday, April 23.

This altercation led to the couple’s divorce.

But the suspect later traced her mother-in-law to her Tozon Daji village, saying she instigating her son to divorce her.

It was based on this assumption she stabbed the septuagenarian to death, the commissioner revealed.

The police commissioner said an investigation was still ongoing and the suspect would be charged to court soon.

The Herald had reported a similar case in Nasarawa State earlier in the month.

In that case, housewife, Rosemary Chem said she killed her mother-in-law, Mrs. Ashi Chem, because she concluded it would stabilise her marriage and restore her happiness.

The incident occurred in Abena community in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday, March 18.
