Dr Muhammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Damaturu.

Goje said the agency was expecting support from the Victims Support Fund (VSF), which is on its way to the state.

He said the state government, through SEMA, had already begun house-to-house distribution of food items to people living with disabilities; to encourage them stay at home to block any chances of COVID-19 pandemic.

Goje said the agency prioritised people with disabilities, based on the recommendations of the state Ministry of Health.

“The physically challenged are the most vulnerable group, who come in contact with different classes of people in the course of their menial businesses or street begging.

“Therefore, when you advise people to stay at home, you have to consider this group first before any other group,” Goje said.

NAN reports that Gov. MaiMala Buni, his deputy, Idi Gubana, and other top government functionaries, have pledged the donation of 50 per cent of their basic salaries to support the fight against coronavirus pandemic in the state.
