Three Pilots Who Flew in Chinese Doctors Disappear From Quarantine

4 Min Read

Reports allege that three of the 17 pilots and crew members who flew in the controversial Chinese Doctors have disappeared from the quarantine facility provided by the Lagos State Government.

According to Punch Newspaper, the 17 crew members and flight attendants who flew Air Peace, Boeing jet, proceeded to the Quarantine facility in Lagos shortly after landing with their passengers and cargo in Abuja.

According to the report, this was as a result of an agreement with the Federal Ministry of Health and the management of Air Peace.

The Chinese doctors themselves were quarantined in a medical facility in Abuja provided by a Chinese construction company which brought them in as a form of CSR along with medical supplies including; 16 tons of test kits, ventilators, disinfection machines, disposable Medical masks, medications, rubber gloves, N95 masks, protective clothing, googles, face shields and infrared thermometers.

The Chinese doctors as well as the crew members are expected to be in quarantine for 14 days albeit in separate facilities.

It was however gathered that the crew members disagreed with port health service officials at the Lagos Airport over the compulsory 14 day quarantine.

According to the crew, they were not informed by their management about the compulsory quarantine period and refused to follow directives of port health officials to proceed to the facility provided by the state government.

After a standoff which lasted several hours, involving calls between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the crew eventually agreed to remain in quarantine.

On getting to the facility within the University of Lagos, another argument erupted about the type and state of the facility provided for the crew.

The crew insisted on single user apartments rather than the two bedroom apartment provided which allowed for two people in the same space.

During the course of the arguement, it was discovered that one of the crew members left for his house straight from the Lagos Airport unknown to Port health officials.

Another headcount was carried out in Thursday where it was discovered that two other crew members had also left the quarantine facility without the knowledge of officials.

While the crew members are still at large, it was gathered that efforts were being by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Government made to locate them.

The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health, confirmed the incident but stayed that the missing crew members had returned to the facility.

“They are back, it is left for the Lagos State surveillance team to work on that. They will do the needful. The important thing is that they are back.” he said.

The management of Air Peace also confirmed the incident but confirmed that the crew members were back to the facility.
