The Benue Police Command says it will enforce the social restriction order by the state government during Easter festivities to curtail further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The command said this in Makurdi on Thursday in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria.

The statement quoted the Police Commissioner (CP) in the state, Mukaddas Garba, as appealing to  Christians to celebrate the event at home as the social restriction order was still in force.

“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Police Command, CP Mukaddas Garba heartily felicitates with the good people of Benue State, especially the Christian faithful, on the occasion of the celebration of the 2020 Easter.

“He urges them to use this opportunity to pray fervently for victory in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

” The CP enjoins members of the public to celebrate Easter in their homes as the social restriction order is still in force. To this end, churches and other social gatherings will not be allowed to congregate under any guise.

” He assures members of the public of adequate security during the celebration and beyond, stating that Police patrol teams have been deployed to man strategic points in the State for prevention of crime and quick response to distress calls.

” Members of the public are advised to use police emergency call numbers available to them during this period to avoid crowding Police stations,” the statement said.
