Tension as gunmen reportedly kidnap Nasarawa governor’s adviser

Suspected gunmen have kidnapped John Waje Mamman, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s special adviser on local government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development in Nasarawa state.

The Herald gathered that the gunmen kidnapped Mamman in his country home in Kokona local government area of the state.

It was learnt that the governor’s aide and his associates were outdoors but within his compound when the kidnappers invaded the house and took him away.

Earlier, The Herald reported that Adamu Mohammed, the elder brother of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has been kidnapped.

He was kidnapped at 7:30 p.m on Wednesday at Anguwar Jaki in Bauchi metropolis and whisked away to an unknown destination, Channels TV reported.

A Senior Special Assistant to the governor confirmed Adamu’s kidnap.

The motive for the kidnapping remains unknown, and it was not immediately clear if the assailants have contacted the victim’s family for any demand.

In a related development, unknown assailants have kidnapped an Asaba-based socialite, Mr. Elvis Ojeogwu, his father and one other person who visited his father’s home at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred in Obior community, Aniocha North LGA of Delta State on Sunday. The socialite, who is reputed to be a billionaire, was visiting his father when the incident occurred.

“Elvis, who is based in Asaba, had visited home to see his father on Sunday. He was with his father and a friend, when the gunmen struck.

“The gunmen operated swiftly; so quick. They held up everyone at gunpoint, before taking away Elvis, his father and the visiting friend.

“Elvis is popular and a rich man in Asaba; so, we are surprised about the incident. Now, the whole community is panicky; the abductors have not had any contact with the family,” a source, who craved anonymity for security reasons, said.

The gunmen have yet to contact the family, The Herald gathered. State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Delta, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, adding that the command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.
