Kaduna Govt Partially Lifts Curfew For Residents To Stock Up

Kaduna State Government has announced the temporarily lift of the curfew imposed across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state in order to contain the spread of Coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic in the state.

 

 

This was announced by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, in a broadcast on Wednesday who stated that the partial lift “is to enable people to stock food and other essentials”.

 

 

She also disclosed that the curfew would be eased from 3 pm on Wednesday (today), April 1 to 12 midnight on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

 

She said,

“Subsequently, the restriction of movement will be lifted every Tuesday and Wednesday. Traders in food and other essentials will open their shops on these two days.”

Kaduna state government had declared a total lockdown in the state over non-compliance of the residents with some measures earlier put in place.

 

This was disclosed by the deputy governor, Hadiza Balarabe, on Thursday, March 26, during the state broadcast.

According to Balarebe, the decision is “in the exercise of the powers vested in the governor by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999, (as amended), sections 2 and 8 of the quarantine act 1926 and the Kaduna state public health law of 1917.”

 

She further announced that the state has “been declared a public health area. Coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, is hereby declared as a dangerous, infectious disease within the meaning of the quarantine act.”
