The New York Department of Health has urged residents to shun group sex to curb the spread of coronavirus.
This was contained in a document released Saturday detailing health guidelines for residents as the state battled perhaps its greatest health risk since its creation.
At least 15,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in New York, making the state the epicentre of the virus in America.
“You are your safest sex partner,” the document reads. “Masturbation will not spread COVID-19, especially if you wash your hands (and any sex toys) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after.”
“The next safest partner is someone you live with,” the agency said. “Having close contact – including sex — with a small circle of people helps prevent spreading COVID-19.”
The agency encouraged residents to avoid having sex with anyone outside their household and completely frowned at group sex.
Residents were also discouraged from meeting online partners this period, and were told to explore safer options.
“Video dates, sexting or chat rooms may be options for you,” the department advised.
Apparently, many residents see sense in the guidelines.
“Masturbating obviously is the safest thing to do.
“That’s a no-brainer. And if you’re two people living in the same household, you’re already sharing germs.
“Whatever you do in your personal life is your own business, but maybe this is not a good time to be having orgies outside of the house and bringing it all home,” New York Post quoted 45-year-old hairstylist, Brian Magallones as saying.
