Nigeria Records 44 COVID-19 Cases, as Bauchi State Confirms it’s First Case

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said that the novel Coronavirus (COVID19), cases in Nigeria have reached 44, as Bauchi state confirmed its first case.

Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General of NCDC, told News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja, while giving an update on COVID-19 in the country.

Ihekweazu said that the two new cases of COVID19 have been confirmed, one from the Federal Capital Territory and one from Bauchi state.

He said that the two cases have travel history to Germany and the United Kingdom.

“As at 06:25 pm on March, 24, there are 44 confirmed cases of COVID19 in Nigeria. Two have been discharged with one death

“Of the 44 confirmed cases, are in seven  states, 29 are in Lagos, 8 in FCT, 3 in Ogun, 1 in Edo, 1 in Ekiti and 1 in Oyo, 1 in Bauchi,” he said.

NAN reports that the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has tested positive for coronavirus, according to information emanating from his aide.

Mukhtar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, disclosed this in a media statement on Tuesday.

The governor had earlier admitted he met and shook hands with Mohammed, the son of former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
