BREAKING: Senate shuts down plenary for two weeks over Coronavirus crisis

The Nigerian Senate has shut down plenary sessions for two weeks amid increasing fears of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan made this known after meeting with other lawmakers behind closed doors.

Upper Chamber has also called on the government to dedicate special funds to fight the deadly disease which has claimed over 8,000 lives in all the nations affected.

The Nigeria House of Assembly is expected to resume on April 7 in the hopes that coast will be clear and COVID-19 is contained.

Nigeria as at March 24 has recorded 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 according to a report by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Some of the people infected by Coronavirus include President Buhari’s Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, Atiku Abubakar’s son among others.

Buhari’s daughter, Zara and Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed have also been placed under isolation.
