A teen has died in the United Kingdom one day after testing positive for coronavirus.
Officials said the 18-year-old died in University Hospital in Coventry and is believed to be the youngest of the 289 deaths linked to coronavirus in the United Kingdom so far, Telegraph reported.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Kiran Patel, said the teen suffered from significant underlying health issues at the time of being diagnosed with the virus.
In a statement, Patel said, “They had also tested for COVID-19 on the day before they died but this was not linked to their reason for dying.
“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
The statement quoted the teen’s family as having “expressed their thanks for the support and well wishes from friends and family.”
Meanwhile, the UK government has described those who ignored the government’s advice aimed at tackling the coronavirus pandemic as “very selfish”.
This was after photos and videos emerged of people visiting open spaces across many parts of the UK, against government directive.
Health Secretary, Matt Hancock noted that the government would take further action if need be.
