According to a statement issued by Mario Diaz-Balart’s office, the Lawmaker tested positive for the COVID – 19 a short while ago.

The announcement by the Republican lawmaker representing Miami comes after the Mayor of the city, Francis Suarez announced that he had tested positive for the Coronavirus last week.

Both men say they are following CDC specified self-isolation guidelines in their respective homes.

The republican lawmaker’s announcement prompted another republican congressman, Steve Scalise to self- quarantine as both men had been in an extended meeting last week.

“Fortunately, I am not experiencing any symptoms, and will continue working remotely on Congress’s Coronavirus response and remain in close contact with Trump administration officials to ensure that swift action to address the crisis continues, Scalise said.

Democrat Ben McAdams representing Utah said he developed a mild cold when he returned to his home state from Washington on Saturday.

“My symptoms got worse and I developed a fever, a dry cough, labored breathing and I remained self-quarantined,” he said.

His diagnosis came back positive on Wednesday and he has remained in isolation at his home.

Confirming both cases, the attending physician of the United States Congress released a statement read by House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi saying Diaz-Balart and McAdams are ill and in good condition.

He added that both Lawmakers are following self-isolation guidelines set by US health officials.

Diaz-Balart said he was working from his Washington apartment in self quarantine.

“I want everyone to know that I am feeling much better. However, it is important that everyone take this extremely seriously and follow CDC guidelines in order to avoid getting sick and mitigate the spread of this virus.” he said.

The United States currently has 9,300 cases of the Coronavirus with 150 deaths so far.
