The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has postponed its 9th Convocation Ceremony indefinitely over coronavirus fears.

NOUN’s Registrar, Felix Edoka, made this known in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday morning.

According to the statement, the ceremony was scheduled to hold on March 20 and March 21 at the institution’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, before the postponement.

Edoka said the institution’s Governing Council and Senate took the decision due to the inherent danger in the gathering of large crowds at this time that the world is battling coronavirus (COVID-19).

He said the institution regretted the inconvenience caused to the 25,000 graduating students and other visitors.

“The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) wishes to inform the general public, especially our over 25, 000 graduating students, that the 9th convocation ceremonies, scheduled for March 20 and 21, 2020 have been postponed indefinitely.

“Council and Senate jointly took the decision in view of the health dangers inherent in the gathering of a large number of people at this time.
