Unknown assailants have kidnapped an Asaba-based socialite, Mr. Elvis Ojeogwu, his father and one other person who visited his father’s home at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred in Obior community, Aniocha North LGA of Delta State on Sunday.

The socialite, who is reputed to be a billionaire, was visiting his father when the incident occurred.

“Elvis, who is based in Asaba, had visited home to see his father on Sunday. He was with his father and a friend, when the gunmen struck.

“The gunmen operated swiftly; so quick. They held up everyone at gunpoint, before taking away Elvis, his father and the visiting friend.

“Elvis is popular and a rich man in Asaba; so, we are surprised about the incident. Now, the whole community is panicky; the abductors have not had any contact with the family,” a source, who craved anonymity for security reasons, said.

The gunmen have yet to contact the family, The Herald gathered.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Delta, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, adding that the command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.

“We received the report that same Sunday and quickly dispatched detectives to track down the kidnappers.

“As I speak, the police are on the heels of the kidnappers and we are determined to rescue the victims unhurt,” the police spokesman said.
