2 Min Read

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken on the alleged removal of Dakuku Peterside as director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The minister on Thursday, March 5, said he was not aware of the alleged sack of Peterside and his replacement by Bashir Jamoh.

Ameachi noted that he would have been told about the development as the transportation minister if Peterside has been truly sacked.

According to him, “I am not aware. As of yesterday when I spoke to the DG of NIMASA, he was in the office and they had a board meeting and he was present at the meeting. I am not aware that he has been removed.

“I spoke to him at about 3 pm to 4 pm. I should know if he has been sacked. If I am the minister of transportation, I should know.”

Ameachi, however, said President Buhari has the power to either replace him when his tenure ends or extend his tenure.

In a related development, sequel to the approval of the appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has applauded the appointment has a timely, appropriate and well deserved one.

Jamoh was appointed by the President to replace Dakuku Peterside who has been the head of the maritime agency since 10th March 2016 and whose tenure ends on 10th March 2020.

MURIC who congratulated the newly appointed DG disclosed this in a press statement made available to The Herald on Thursday 5th March 2020 by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads; “The appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the new Director-General of NIMASA is timely, appropriate and well-deserved. It is a reward for hard work and dedication to duty.

“With an intimidating curriculum vitae and inexhaustible work experience both within and outside NIMASA, Jamoh has the wherewithal to take the maritime agency to the next level.
