US Govt Places N2.5 Billion Bounty On Boko Haram Leaders Head

2 Min Read

The United States Department of State has offered a $7m reward for information that can lead to the arrest of Abubakar Shekau, the Boko Haram leader.

Shekau has been the leader of Boko Haram since the killing of its former leader, Mohammed Yusuf, in 2009.

The US Department said: “Every government and every citizen has a stake in bringing terrorists to justice and in preventing acts of terrorism”

The dreaded Islamic sect group has killed tens of thousands and displaced 2.3 million people from their homes and was at one time the world’s deadliest terror group according to the Global Terrorism Index.

However, on Tuesday, the Rewards for Justice Program, which is the counter terrorism rewards program of the US Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, stated via their twitter handle that they are willing to give out $7m which is equivalent to N2.5bn to anyone that would provide them with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the dreaded boko haram leader.
