Facebook has filed a lawsuit against OneAudience data intelligence firm for the scheme it used in getting information about users on social media platforms.
Facebook alleged that OneAudience firm which is based in New Jersey improperly acquired data through third parties by paying software developers to install “malicious” softwares in their apps in order to get those information from users on social media platforms including Facebook.
Jessica Romero, director of platform enforcement and litigation disclosed in a blog post that “Security researchers first flagged oneAudience’s behaviour to us as part of our data abuse bounty program”.
“Facebook, and other affected companies, then took enforcement measures against oneAudience.”
According to Romero, the company had taken several measures to shun the alleged illegality by oneAudience, including disabling apps, requested cooperation with an audit in line with social network policies which oneAudience declined.

Facebook’s action against oneAudience comes from its decision to cut down on improper data usage since it was discovered that Donald Trump’s campaign influenced millions of users through improper data usage. The company has since then taken extra measures to review deals with all of its partners and apps.
Meanwhile, Twitter has made some comments which suggested that the allegation of misuse of user data by oneAudience may be true. Twitter warned it’s users to be aware of apps that have permission to access data on their smartphones and deny those access.
“While we have no evidence to suggest that this was used to take control of a Twitter account, it is possible that a person could do so,” Twitter warned.
