EFCC Arrest Ganduje’s Commissioner Over Alleged N76m Fraud

Mr Mukhtar Ishaq, Kano State commissioner in the Ministry of Special Duties has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N76 million fraud.

 

This was disclosed in a statement by EFCC Kano branch on Friday in which also stated that the commissioner was accosted on Thursday after a petition was lodged against him, investigations confirmed that he had been diverting funds from the Kano Municipal Local Government during his tenure as Chairman of the said local government.

 

The statement said;

 

“Mukhtar’s trouble followed a petition which states that while he was Chairman, Kano Municipal, he allegedly diverted N76,000,000 only which was meant for projects, development and empowerment of the people.”

Meanwhile, the governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje, has appointed three people in the position of special assistants to the governor on streetlight issues.

 

According to TheCable report, the appointment was disclosed in a letter dated February 13, by the secretary to the state government which notified one of the appointees, Anwalu Salihu of his appointment as the senior special assistant, streetlights III.

 

The letter disclosed that the appointment of Salihu was based on his ”dedication to duty, patriotic disposition and loyalty” TheCable reported.

 

“This is to formally convey to you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR has approved your appointment as Senior Special Assistant, Street Lights III with effect from 10th February 2020,” it read.

 

“Your appointment into this position of trust and confidence was made upon careful assessment of your credentials, competence, track record of performance, dedication to duty, vast experience, patriotic disposition and expressed loyalty. It is hoped that you will employ these qualities to bear towards ensuring effective discharge of your assigned duties.
