Information Commissioner Solicits Media Support to Promote Good Governance in Nasarawa

Mr Dogo Shammah, Nasarawa  Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism has solicited the collaboration and support of media outfits to promote good governance in the state.

Mr Dogo Shammah made the appeal on  Friday at the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) Keffi, in continuation of his Media tour.

According to the commissioner, the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led administration understands the important role of the media in the society, hence the need for the partnership to promote good governance.

He, however, urged journalists in the state to always uphold the ethics of the profession by ensuring balance,  objectivity and fairness at all time.

Shammah also appealed to media practitioners to engage in developmental journalism, which he said, is the new trend globally.

The commissioner, who was received by Sefianu Magaji, Head of Programme,  Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) Keffi, tasked the staff to exploit ways of generating revenue to improve the welfare and capacity development of staff.

He urged the staff to be innovative and productive while assuring them of government’s continuous support the station and toward improving the welfare of the staff.

Responding, Magaji, said the station was facing challenges ranging from inadequate work tools, power generating sets, and personnel among others.

The commissioner also visited the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Platinum FM and Maloney FM, all in Keffi.

He commended the stations for their contributions, especially in the reportage of government policies and programmes in the state.

In separate remarks, Maryam Rabo, Head of Programme, Platinum FM and Shola Olaniyi, Station Manager, Maloney FM, appreciated the commissioner for the visit, while pledging their commitment and continuous support for the administration.

Meanwhile, Eng. Peter Gyang, Director,  Engineering, NTA, while also commending the commissioner for the visit, appealed for office accommodation for the station.
