Gunmen kidnap 4 JAMB officials along Abuja-Lokoja Expressway

Reports claim that some officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been abducted by kidnappers along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.

The Herald gathered that four officials on Sunday, February 16, evening were abducted while coming from the board’s headquarters.

It was also gathered that the officials were on their way to Kabba in preparation for the mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination when the incident happened.

According to eyewitnesses, some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers ambushed the officials’ vehicle at Obajana area and forced them into the bush.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi state Police command spokesperson, William Ayah, said a team of Anti-Robbery squad had been deployed to comb the area in search of the JAMB officials.

Ayah said one of the officials who have been identified as Hamza has already been rescued and is currently receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.

Also reacting, the spokesperson for JAMB, Fabia Benjamin, said efforts are being made by the board in collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure their release.

Earlier, The Herald gathered that two persons have been abducted by gunmen in Calabar over the weekend, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

NAN gathered that Dr David Ugwu, an Associate Professor with University of Calabar, was abducted at his home on Friday evening, while Mr Morris Archibong, a Staff of Cross River Newspaper Corporation, was kidnapped on his way home on Saturday.

Prof. Ugwu was picked up by gunmen at his residence at second transformer in Atimbo while watering flowers in his compound after his abductors shot severally into the air to scare residents.

A witness, Mrs Iquo Etim, said the professor was watering flowers in his compound in the evening when the gunmen arrived shooting before taking him away.

“They took him through the water. It is like they had been monitoring him for quite a while because they came in swiftly like they knew the area,” she said.
