Commissioner Tasks Students on Ogun Agric Intervention Programmes

1 Min Read

The Ogun government, on Saturday, advised agricultural science students in its tertiary institutions to key into its various intervention programmes, such as the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), for easy access to loans and farmlands.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, gave the advice in Abeokuta while hosting members of the state chapter of the National Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS).

Odedina told the students that the government placed a high priority on youth empowerment in its agricultural reforms.

“One of the major aims of the ongoing agricultural reforms of the Gov. Dapo Abiodun-led administration is to generate interest and encourage youths to go into farming through various forms of motivations,” he said.

He encouraged them to ensure that their extra-curricular activities were agriculture-oriented.

The commissioner also stressed the need for the students to study hard in order to protect the prestige inherent in their areas of specialisation.

Speaking earlier, the General Secretary of the association, Mr Wasiu Lawal, appealed to the government to provide more access to farmlands for practicals to boost classroom knowledge.
