An NGO, Child is Gold Foundation (CGF), has distributed school materials to 100 orphans and vulnerable girls in Bayara Primary school, Bauchi, as part of activities to mark the 2020 Valentine Day celebration.

Mrs Elizabeth James, the Executive Director of the organisation, made the disclosure at the presentation of the school kits to the indigent pupils on Friday in Bauchi.

James disclosed that sandals and socks were distributed to the girls to enable them to be part of the Valentine Day celebration.

She said that the gesture was to enhance enrollment and retention of girl child in school to ensure that they completed their basic education.

“We, in partnership with other organisations such as Well Child Initiative (WCI), the Ikra Foundation for Youths and Women (IFYW) decided to celebrate valentine with our orphans and vulnerable girls.

“The partners came together to re-enrol the 100 girls back to school at the beginning of the session,” she said.

Also speaking, Barr. Amina Garuba, the Founder of the IFYW, said that the gesture was to teach the girls about self-love and encourage them to remain in school.

“This is to show the girls that valentine is not only a sign of love between girls and boys but self-love as well,” she said.

On his part, Mohammed Jumba, Chairman, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, commended the gesture and promised to encourage the girls to complete their education.

Meanwhile, Mr Safiyan Danladi, Headmaster of the school, revealed that some development organisations had earlier provided school uniforms and paid school fees for the indigent girls.
