Amotekun: South-East Governors Vow To Name Own Regional Security Outfit Soon

The South-East Governors Forum has said it would soon name a regional security outfit for the South-East geopolitical zone.

This is coming barely a month after South-West governors launched Amotekun, the Western Nigeria Security Network to combat kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

According to a communique released after the Forum met in Enugu on Sunday, the governors said the process for the set-up of the outfit commenced in 2019.

In a communique read by Forum Chairman and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, the forum said that the State Houses of Assembly in the zone have commenced the process of enacting enabling laws to give the outfit legal backing.

The governors added that the Federal Government has been duly informed about plans to launch the outfit.

“The South-East Governors had formed their Southeast joint security on July 28, 2019, and inaugurated her committee on joint security on August 31, 2019.

“Forum took a briefing from chairman of the South East joint security Committee and are satisfied with all the arrangement that will lead to South East State Houses of Assembly to enact a law to back up the South East Security programme with a name to the outfit,” Umahi said.
