BREAKING: Supreme Court Upholds 12 Years Jail term for Nyame, Taraba Ex-Gov

2 Min Read

The supreme court has upheld the sentencing of former Taraba Governor  Jolly Nyame by the appeal court after he was found guilty of corruption charges going up to N1.2 billion

It would be recalled that the court of appeal reduced Nyame’s jail term from 14 years to 12 years on November 16, 2019.

Unsatisfied with the ruling, Nyame headed to the Supreme court to argue his innocence.

Justice Mary Peter-Odili who led the five-man panel in her ruling upheld the 12-year-jail term of the former governor over misappropriation of public funds.

The presiding justice also nullified the payment of N100 million fine imposed on him by the court of appeal, saying it was wrong without hearing from the appellant

“The lower court ought to have heard from the parties, especially, the appellant who appealed for the reduction of the sentence imposed by the trial court, before imposing those fines on him,” ruled Justice Augie, a member of the five-man panel.

Nyame who is already incarcerated will continue to serve his jail term in prison
