The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a directive by its Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, to impound any flatbed trailer carrying containers on highways without proper latching.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, who stated that the directive was issued to all patrol teams.
Oyeyemi further disclosed that FRSC has sealed a partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority in other to ensure that the safety rules are maintained, by denying exit access to any trailer without meeting the full conditions of proper latching of containers.
He reiterated that there is an immense danger of improperly latched or unlatched containers to the lives and properties of commuters.
Over the years, there have been reports of fallen containers which have occasioned the deaths of many, as this is one of the major reasons the directive is being issued.
Oyeyemi also stated that fallen containers occasion several road obstructions that breed unbearable traffic on the road, affecting motorists and road users.

The statement read in part;
“So, in order to avert this and put a stop to further recurrence, the corps marshal has directed the operatives of the corps to be on red alert and impound at sight, any of such trailers found in the act.”
