A kidnap kingpin, Buju Bazamfare and thirty-six of his armed gang-members, who have been terrorizing travellers and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have surrendered to the Police in Lafia, Nasarawa state.

Bazamfare was alleged to have terrorized Toto and Nasarawa Local Government Areas of the state and neighbouring Abaji and Kuje in Abuja as well as Lokoja and Bassa in Kogi state respectively.

It was learnt that the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa, was instrumental to the laying down of arms of Bazamfare and his gang-members.

Earlier, The Herald reported that the Kwara State Police Command said that it had arrested a suspected kidnapper who, after operations in Katsina ran to  the state to hide.

The commissioner of police, Kayode Egbetokun, made this known on Wednesday, January 15, while parading some suspects in Ilorin.

Egbetokun said: “We have in our custody a suspect that is always running to Kwara State after every successful kidnap operation in Katsina State. He has made confessional statement in that regard.

“Recall that last Friday, I had dinner  with my officers where I mentioned that we have arrested 275 and prosecuted them in cases of armed robbery and kidnapping and most of these cases did not even take place here in Kwara.

“The suspects actually committed the offences outside the state and they always run here for cover. We have arrested a lot of them.

“We transferred some of them back to the state that have jurisdiction over the case and we prosecuted some here too.”

It was reported that Bayelsa Police Command said it has arrested four suspected cultists who allegedly initiated some minors into a banned secret society.

A spokesman for the command, SP Asinim Butswat, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that operatives of its anti-cult unit affected the arrest of the suspects on Friday.

He said the arrest followed credible information from residents of Okutukutu, a suburb in Yenagoa where the initiation took place.

Butswat said that at least three minors aged between 13 and 17, had so far been identified as new initiates.
