Saudi Arabia Denies Hacking Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos’ Phone

2 Min Read

Earlier on, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos received a malware-infected video file from a Whats App account reportedly belonging to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

According to reports, the file was allegedly then used to infiltrate Bezos’ personal phone.

However, According to CBS News, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister called the claims absurd.

The statement read: “recent media reports that suggest the Kingdom is behind a hacking of Mr. Jeff Bezos’ phone are absurd.”

According to The Financial Times, the hack’s roots trace back to Bezos and Bin Salman exchanging phone numbers in Los Angeles.

Weeks later, The Guardian reports, Bezos and the crown prince were engaged in a “seemingly friendly Whats App exchange” when Bin Salman sent an unsolicited malware-infected file. Although, the information that was taken is yet to be identified.

Gavin de Becker, a security consultant working for Bezos, also suggested that Saudi Arabia played a role in the attack on the CEO’s phone.

Becker said:”Our investigators and several experts concluded with high confidence that the Saudis had access to Bezos’ phone, and gained private information,”

The Washington Post reported   on Tuesday that the United Nations is preparing to publicize the results of a forensic investigation that confirms the Guardian report and concludes that Bezos’ phone was infected after he received a message from an account belonging to Bin Salman.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights declined to comment.
