3 Min Read

Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma on Tuesday, January 21, during his first broadcast to the people of the state vowed to conduct a fresh local government election.

Uzodinma made the vow when the chairmen of the traditional rulers from the 27 local government areas of the state led by the council chairman of traditional rulers, Eze Agunwa Ohiri, paid him a courtesy call.

He reminded the monarchs of their roles in ensuring peace and tranquility. The governor assured them that his policies would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

Earlier, The Herald reported that governorship candidate of the AA in the state, Uche Nwosu, debunked rumours that he planned to challenge the Supreme Court judgment which declared Hope Uzodinma as governor.

Nwosu, who addressed reporters after a meeting with leaders of the Rescue Mission Structures, council and ward chairmen, as well as state executives of the APC, said he would not fight the judgment but support Uzodinma wholeheartedly.

He said: “I want to state categorically that the party, including the structures in the state, have accepted the judgment which affirmed Hope Uzodinma as the governor of our state.

“We are not in any way fighting that judgment that has given our party the victory due it; but we shall give our unalloyed support to the new government.

“We are elated that the injustice we faced at the tribunal and Appeal Court has become a thing of the past, and so we are using this avenue to praise the judiciary for still remaining the last resort of the hopeless.”

It was reported that the Supreme Court has struck out an appeal filed against Emeka Ihedioha as Imo state Governor. The appeal which was filed by Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) has been struck out.

Supreme court struck out the appeal on Uche Nwosu’s oral request through Solomon Umoh (SAN), his legal counsel.

The election victory of Emeka Ihedioha on Feb 19, 2019 gubernatorial poll has been challenged by Nwosu and 2 other candidates.

The candidates who have approached the court seeking the nullification to the Guber poll allege Ihedioha won through scrupulous means as the election was marred with electoral malpractices.
