Samsung Electronics appoints new mobile chief ahead of S20 launch

1 Min Read

Samsung has appointed a new mobile chief a few days to the launch of the Galaxy S20.

The company has appointed Roh Tae-moo as the new head of its mobile division with DJ Koh moving to look after Samsung’s IT and mobile communications division.

Roh, 51, is Samsung’s youngest president ever and has been recognised for his role in cutting cost within the company by outsourcing some of its production to China.

The tech giant will launch its next flagships on February 11 at an event in San Francisco, US.

The Korean firm is positioning the S20 as the market driver that will help them regain some of that market share it’s been losing to the hosts of Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi in India and China.

Roh’s task is clear, to help the company recapture what is arguably the two biggest markets in the world; China and India.

Also announced is the reappointment of CEO Kim Hyun-suk who will no longer lead its consumer electronics business unit but will retain his positions as division head and Samsung research lead.
