Imo: Place CJN Tanko, panel members on visa ban – Diaspora group tells Trump

3 Min Read

The Imo Diaspora Coalition for Justice and Democracy has petitioned President Donald Trump to place visa ban on the seven Supreme Court justices who unanimously declared Hope Uzodinma as the winner of the March 9, 2019 governorship election.

The group condemned the judgment of the Supreme Court on the election, demanding far reaching sanctions on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad and six other justices of the court who determined the matter.

Recall that the apex court sacked Emeka Ihedioha as Imo state governor and declared Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

The petition, which has over 700 signatories, listed Justice Kudrat Kekere–Ekun, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Aminu Sanusi, Justice Amina Augie, and Justice Uwani Abba-Aji for sanction.

The group also recommended members of their immediate families for the travel ban and other necessary sanctions as the case may be.

Earlier, The Herald reported that the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party rejected the verdict of the Supreme Court on the Imo gubernatorial election.

PDP also described the Supreme Court under Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Mohammed as “heavily compromised” and lacking in “credibility”.

That was the outcome of the emergency meeting called by the PDP NWC to deliberate on the apex court’s judgement sacking the party’s candidate in the March 9, 2019 election, Emeka Ihedioha, and declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Sen. Hope Uzodinma the winner of the election.

National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus read the decision of the NWC in a press conference held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Secondus, the judgement of the apex court constitutes “miscarriage of justice”.

“Our party has it in good authority that Justice Tanko and his panel are working on instruction from certain forces in the Presidency to use the Supreme Court to take over states lawfully won by the PDP and award them to the APC,” he said.
