Emerging reports claim that Peter Unogwu, a retired senior official of the Department of State Services (DSS), has  been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Benue state.

The Herald gathered that Unogwu was abducted while travelling on the Otukpo-Utonkon- Igumale Road on Wednesday.

The police public relations officer of the state command, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, saying police are already on the trail of the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that DSS rescued  five aid workers abducted by ISWAP along the Monguno-Maiduguri Road, Borno State.

The humanitarian workers, two females and three males were abducted three days to Christmas. Boko Haram fighters had ambushed their convoy en route to Maiduguri from Monguno in Borno state.

The rescued aid workers include Jennifer Samuel Ukumbong of the Alliance for International Medical Action, ALIMA; Asabe Cletus Musa also of ALIMA; Adamu Auwal  Arthur Ibojekwe China of  Solidarity International; and  George Danbaba Michael of International Organisation for Migration, IOM.

“They are in good health and are being debriefed at our command in Maiduguri,” a security source said.

It was reported that Boko Haram terrorists on Friday, January 10, kidnapped four armed soldiers and two police officers along Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

Military sources who revealed this to TheCable, said the terrorists attacked the security officers in an ambush near Auno village on Damaturu-Maiduguri road.

The insurgents who appeared in military uniforms were said to have mounted a roadblock on the highway with three Hilux vans before taking away the hostages who were returning from a short break.

One of the sources said: “Four military men were abducted in an 18 seater bus while two other policemen were abducted in a Gulf car.”
