The trial judge, Justice Patricia Ajoku, gave the sentence, saying she had considered the time the convict had spent in detention since his arrest on Nov. 12, 2019.

Ajoku also ordered that the recovered Indian hemp be publicly burnt.

During the trial, ASP Olaniran Olutayo, an official of the NDLEA, testified that the defendant was arrested at Igan area, Ogbomosho, with three polythene bags containing leafy substances examined to be weed weighing 2.8kg.

The defense counsel, Mr. M. A. Olapade, had earlier pleaded for leniency on behalf of his client, praying the court to consider his client’s early acceptance of guilt.

“He’s a young man and a first-time offender,” Olapade told the court.
