Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, who were on duty at a check point in a popular Abraka Market area of Asaba, were attacked, overpowered and looted by gunmen.
According to reports, the gunmen attacked the police officers attached to Area ‘C’ Division in Asaba, while they were soliciting for bribe from commuters at the check point.
Reports also confirmed that the gunmen disarmed the officers who let their guards down, stole rifles from them, and inflicted varying degree of injuries on them, including machete cuts.
Although no deaths were reported, the police men however suffered severe injuries and some currently battling for their lives at the hospital.
The PUNCH gathered from an eyewitness that “After the attack, the criminals escaped by walking on the road before they disappeared.”

PUNCH further gathered that the Commissioner of Police of Delta State, Hafiz Inuwa, confirmed that the attack indeed took place on Sunday.
He said;
“Actually, the incident took place, but as far as I am concerned, the rifles collected were two and not three.
“I gathered that this was not the first time that an incident of this nature happened in the state before my arrival. “But this is the first time since I took over as commissioner of police. With the power of God and the strategy and intelligence we have, it will not occur again.
“Within eight days of my arrival, I have recovered over 10 firearms that hoodlums were using to commit crimes in the state.
“We are on the trail of the hoodlums and anybody caught will be seriously dealt with.”
